The Daily Daily: The word today is Aquaponics

I saw this on NBC Nightly News.  Don’t call me a nerd, ok. I am old and I don’t have much to do anymore but read, grade papers and post podcasts.  I think a lot about the environment because it is a big pile of crap, but this is interesting:  the technology of aquaponics.

Aquaponics is the combination of aquaculture and hydroponics. In aquaponics, you grow fish and plants together in one integrated, soilless system. The fish waste provides a food source for the plants and the plants provide a natural filter for the water the fish live in.

So, think about it.  The plants sit in a pool of water.  The fish poop.  The plants eat the poop.  The plants filter the water that the fish is in.  The fish grow.  Now, what do the fish it?  That’s part of the probably, but a small part.  This isn’t a possible solution to our problems.  Most people don’t even think there is a problem.  This is a real solution.  This will happen and it will happen in a way that puts food on tables.  Sadly, we’ll have to wait until the Ice-caps melt or after our fields burn down or after mega-hurricanes turn deserts into swarms.  Yeah, after all that, we can start this up.
