Uh. This is weird.
If you didn’t know, George Takei got married last month. Yes, he got married to a dude. Yes, Sulu is gay and no one on the planet cares. I mean, do we? The economy is so bad that I dug into the trash for used paper plates. We have more important things to deal with. But, apparently William Shatner got sort of mad about it. No, wait. He didn’t get mad that Takei is gay. Captain Kirk doesn’t care either. He was upset that he wasn’t invited.
In a video posted on Shatner’s Web site Wednesday, he lashed out at Takei for not inviting him to his wedding last month. The 77-year-old Kirk said Takei, who played Enterprise helmsman Sulu, apparently harbors a grudge against him that kept him from being invited to Takei’s nuptials. “The whole thing makes me feel badly,” Shatner said in the video. “Poor man. There is such a sickness there. It’s so patently obvious that there is a psychosis there. I don’t know what his original thing about me was. I have no idea.” Takei and Brad Altman tied the knot September 14. “Star Trek” alums Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig — who played Uhura and Chekhov, respectively — were among the attendees at the multicultural ceremony at the Japanese American National Museum.
Helmsman Sulu fired back, stating that the Captain was invited, but that Shatner never RSVPed. Come on, Kirk. You can fight Klingons and save the universe, but you can’t mail back an invitation? What the fuck is wrong with you?
